Developing oracy skills: 15 proven teaching strategies

Teachers frequently complain that students do not engage in communication activities as eagerly as they would like. One of the reasons this may be so is because we fail to teach how to speak, choosing instead for exploring a topic and then asking students to get together and “discuss.” In this workshop we will explore fifteen classroom activities that have worked well in developing oral skills in a multitude of contexts. Come ready to talk, and talk, and talk…and then talk some more.

Gabriel Diaz Maggioli is a teacher who applies the lessons learned in the classroom to his roles as writer, researcher, administrator and teacher educator.
